History . .
. Constitution Day
Constitution Day
falls on December 10 of every year. It
is a day to commemorate the occasion
when King Prajadhipok (Rama VII)
graciously granted the Constitution of
the Kingdom of Siam, B.E. 2475 (1932) on
December 10, B.E. 2475 (1932), the first
permanent constitution of
Thailand.
As a result of the
promulgation of this new constitution,
the Provisional Constitution of Siam Act
B.E. 2475 (1932) was repealed, which was
promulgated on June 27, B.E. 2475
(1932), after the change of government
by the People's Party from an
absolute monarchy to a democracy on June
24 of the same year. The important
feature is that the government system
was changed to a parliamentary system.
This is because the Provisional
Constitution of Siam Act B.E. 2475
(1932) stipulated that the King, who is
the head of state, is not politically
responsible. He exercises power through
the cabinet, which the King appoints to
serve the country for the House of
Representatives, which is the
legislative branch. He does not only
exercise legislative power, but also has
the power to control the cabinet in the
administration of the
country.
However, the cabinet,
including the King, which constitutes
the government It has the power to
dissolve the House of Representatives if
it sees that it has acted in a way that
will threaten or damage the important
interests of the state, which is
equivalent to removing the elected
members of the House of Representatives
so that the people can elect them again.
As for the King, it is stipulated that
the King is in a position of respect and
worship of the people and cannot be
violated by anyone. As for the Democracy
Monument, it was built on June 24, 1939,
which was the day of the change of
government and was National Day at that
time, by the wish of Field Marshal P.
Phibunsongkhram.
